I know that’s the point of it, but is it really effective? Will it work to remove really old scars? Is it good? Can you use it on your face?

Mederma works wonders on newer scars and yes you can DEFINITELY use it on your face. As far as older scars it will probably take a lot longer to reduce the look of your scar because it has had time to become more solid. But I’ve used Mederma on my face when I got into a car accident and you cannot even see it at all. But I used it immediately after my burn became a scar, so an old scar might not clear up as quickly, but I can say that Mederma works really well!
mederma actually does work. admittedly, i haven’t been an avid user (i forget a lot of times to put it on) but even so, i’ve been using it on and off for almost a year and the scar that i have is over 2 years old now. it has definitely removed some of it but you can still see it. i’m trying to used it consistently (instead of just for a week) and am expecting to see even better results.
good luck!
